The GNG Youth Basketball Association (GNGYBA) is committed to providing a safe, positive, and supportive environment for all players, coaches, families, and fans. To ensure a rewarding experience for everyone, we ask that all participants uphold the following Code of Conduct.
Please remember that all of our coaches and many referees are volunteers, giving their time to help children learn and enjoy the game. They deserve the same respect and encouragement as the athletes on the court.
Parents/Guardians
- Support your child and all players with positive encouragement, not criticism.
- Respect coaches, referees, and volunteers, understanding that in many cases they are giving their time freely for the benefit of the players.
- Place the emotional and physical well-being of your child ahead of personal desire to win.
- Refrain from coaching your child during games and practices—allow the coaches to coach.
- Address concerns or questions with coaches or league organizers at appropriate times, never in front of players or during games.
- Ensure your child arrives on time, prepared, and ready to participate.
- Take responsibility for your family members and guests, ensuring that they also follow this Code of Conduct at all times.
Fans
- Cheer positively for all players, regardless of team.
- Respect referees, coaches, and volunteers at all times, recognizing that many are serving in a volunteer role.
- Avoid negative comments, taunting, or arguing with officials.
- Model good sportsmanship for young athletes by treating everyone with respect.
- Remember: this is a youth sport—applause and encouragement matter more than the scoreboard.
Players
- Play hard, but always with respect—for teammates, opponents, coaches, referees, and yourself.
- Be a team player: support and encourage others, share the ball, and celebrate team success.
- Listen to your coaches and give your best effort at all times.
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship, win or lose.
- Respect facilities, equipment, and uniforms.
- Take responsibility for your behavior on and off the court, knowing you represent GNGYBA.
Coaches
- Place the well-being and development of players above all else.
- Teach the fundamentals of basketball while promoting teamwork, effort, and respect.
- Provide equal opportunities for players to learn and grow, regardless of skill level.
- Lead by example—demonstrate sportsmanship, patience, and integrity at all times.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with parents, players, and officials.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment where players can thrive.
Commitment
By participating in GNGYBA, all parents, fans, players, and coaches agree to uphold this Code of Conduct. Parents and families are also responsible for the behavior of their guests. Violations may result in warnings, removal from a game or practice, or dismissal from the program, at the discretion of the GNGYBA board.
